Description

Ponte Luís I is one of Porto’s most recognized landmarks, connecting the city to neighboring Vila Nova de Gaia over the Douro River. Built between 1881 and 1886, the bridge is an impressive double-deck iron structure designed by engineer Théophile Seyrig, who had previously worked with Gustave Eiffel. The bridge offers stunning views of the city and river, especially from the upper deck, now used by the Porto Metro and pedestrians. The lower deck is for road traffic and pedestrians, serving as a vital link between the two riverbanks.
