Description

Forte de São Filipe, located on the Estrada do Castelo de São Filipe in Setúbal, offers breathtaking panoramic views of the city, the Sado River estuary, and the Arrábida Mountains. Built in the 16th century during the reign of King Philip I of Portugal, the fort was intended to defend the coast of Setúbal from pirate attacks and enemy forces. Its impressive architecture reflects the military techniques of the time, with robust walls and a star-shaped layout. Inside the fort, visitors can find a small chapel adorned with traditional Portuguese tiles from the 18th century, which are worth seeing. The fort has recently undergone renovations and remains an important tourist attraction, ideal for scenic walks and enjoying the landscape.
